Vehicle Extrication



Vehicle Extrication programs teach to specific chapters in NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents, and NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. They demonstrate incident overview, stabilization, hazard control, initial procedures and interior procedures to improve the safety and efficiency of rescue teams. Technical advisers included Ron Moore, author of the University of Extrication series in Firehouse magazine and Vehicle Rescue and Extrication by Mosby Co., and Kevin Williams, founder of the award-winning Puyallup Extrication Team of Puyallup, Wa., and instructor at Bates Technical College, North Bend Training Academy.

Shows the rescue challenges presented by increased use of reinforced steel and ultra-high strength steel (UHSS) to protect passengers in vehicle crashes. Demonstrates "workaround" techniques to extricate patients trapped when advanced-steel-capable cutting tools aren't available.
